Born: 1973, Seoul, South Korea
Through his paintings, Korean artist Young-sung Kim offers a compelling critique of consumerism and how society assigns value to objects—both commercially and ethically. By juxtaposing living creatures with luxury objects in artificial settings, Kim draws a sharp contrast between the organic and the manufactured. His work prompts viewers to reflect on how consumerism shapes our perception of worth, urging a deeper consideration of the place living beings hold in an increasingly material-driven world.
Kim’s art is included in numerous private and public collections, including the Seoul Museum of Art and the Art Retreat Museum. His work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions around the globe, and he has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Korea Youth Biennale award in 1996.

Surrounded by images, signage, advertisements and mass-media in general, it has been said that the world in which we live, shapes and transforms our experience to the point that “reality” is recognised only when it is re-produced.
