John Kacere
1920 - 1999
John Kacere was an American painter and a pioneering figure in the Photorealist movement of the 1960s. He is best known for his striking, larger-than-life depictions of the female midsection, often adorned in delicate lingerie—imagery that has become some of the most recognizable and iconic in American photorealism.
Kacere’s exceptional ability to render the textures of flesh and fine fabrics lent his paintings a sensuous realism, while their composition and scale often invited comparisons to still lifes or even landscapes.
Beginning in 1963, he transitioned from abstraction to working from photographs, gradually perfecting a smooth, meticulous oil painting technique. Today, Kacere’s work is held in numerous private collections and has been showcased in exhibitions and publications around the world.
