Overview

Born: 1976, Den Helder, Netherlands

Victor Muller is an artist with a remarkable and distinctive body of work. Through his paintings he creates the world he longs to inhabit: a place of silence and contemplation where the eternal nature of a single moment offers refuge from the intensity of everyday life. Central to his work is the idea of timelessness.

Muller combines serene landscapes with carefully composed still lifes in the foreground, merging the two into a unified atmosphere of quiet permanence. The light in his paintings is dim and filtered, there are no deep blacks or brilliant whites. Both foreground and background possess the stillness of a carefully arranged composition. Set against meticulously staged Tuscan landscapes, Muller places arrangements of objects that seem to belong to another age. These mature still lifes deepen the silence of the eternal landscape beyond reinforcing an atmosphere suspended in time.
