Lorena Kloosterboer
Born: 1962, Alkmaar, Netherlands
Lorena Kloosterboer creates hyperrealist still lifes which focus on period objects made of glass, ceramic, and metal, often featuring flora and fauna. In her work, Kloosterboer captures the fascinating interactions between colors, light, shadows, textures, and reflections, and unites them in visual poetry.
The artist is highly inspired by the still lifes of the Dutch Golden Age and depicts a variety of subject matter striving for an elegant, timeless yet contemporary look. Over time she has adapted classical skill-based methods to suit painting in acrylics. After nearly four decades as a professional artist, she has developed a highly recognizable signature style especially in regard to composition and creative content.
Kloosterboer’s paintings are based on symbolism; she conveys her thoughts about life through metaphors and symbolic meaning universally ascribed to her subject matter. This symbolism—representing higher ideals, such as wisdom, awareness, and empathy—may not be immediately obvious, yet she believes these messages reach the consciousness of those open to them.
Lorena Kloosterboer currently lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.
