Born in New York, hyperrealist Mark Oberndorf is widely known for his paintings of ‘All American’ diner signs and drive- thru’s. His style of painting has been strongly influenced by Edward Hopper and Johannes Vermeer.
Oberndorf claims his artistic goal is to capture the mood of his subject through intelligent observation and execution of all natural light effects, alongside faithful rendering of perspective and creative composition.
Most recently he has focused on capturing communal landmarks in pre-gentrified neighbourhoods in Bergen County, NJ and New York City before their imminent demolition.
He conveys the elusive atmospheric effects of the three-dimensional world onto a two-dimensional surface in his works. Using colour, value, line and paint texture, Mark Oberndorf creates his own vision and interpretation of nature, for an honest and valid representational work of art.
